Welcome to “Counterpoint” – a monthly email where we’ll dive into essential and transformative topics around technique, posture, and overcoming obstacles in music practice & performance. Both learning and seasoned musicians can expect:
I’m devoted to helping musicians dissolve their pain and limitations. I study the Taubman Approach and am a Gokhale Method teacher. My teaching Bible is “Kids Beyond Limits” by Anat Baniel.
I’m into early music, piano technique, and posture. I run, grow way too many tomatoes every year, read science fiction out loud with my husband, and barter piano lessons for positive reinforcement dog training.
As a pianist, harpsichordist, and organist based in Madison, WI, I’ve focused on piano technique and posture for over a decade to overcome my own limitations.
For piano, I currently study the Taubman Approach with Mary Moran at the Golandsky Institute, implementing a technical curriculum for young musicians that fosters ease of musicianship and critical thinking. I also educate parents to understand their child’s technique, leading to happier and more effective practice sessions.
For back pain, when the Gokhale Method eliminated my own sciatica, back pain, IT band pain, and shoulder pain, I decided to become a teacher. I help musicians regain an upright and relaxed posture, and comfort while sitting and standing with their instruments.
Let’s make music a joyful, pain-free experience for everyone.
